Our Approach to Mould Prevention

When we were working on the first AQHome product, there was a lot of publicity circulating at the time regarding the fatal consequences of mould in domestic settings across the country. It is a problem that hasn’t gone away and will only increase in the short term as our housing stock ages further and climate change continues unabated.

Our mantra has always been that the solution or mitigation to this problem lies in many places. Of course remedial building work and treatment to remedy penetrating and rising damp is crucial. But for condensation issues, education is also a crucial component in the solution. Underpinning all of these approaches, however, is air quality monitoring.

Monitoring temperature, humidity and CO2 levels will pick up the early warning signs of damp and mould, and also confirm the scale of the problem. It will of course prove that remedial action has been successful. That’s why we were confident that the product could play a key role for all the concerned parties at every stage of the process.

Another key element is being able to record the data and give transparency to homeowners, tenants and landlords. Both live and historical data can be accessed to track and monitor progress. Live data automatically drives an immediate response via our alert system. Historical data can help identify the underlying causes of damp and mould. Using the data together with feedback from the householder is crucial in tackling condensation related issues.

Finally, continuous research and development drives our unique predictive Mould Index model using AI and machine learning.
